At their January virtual meeting, you PCC Board unanimously adopted the following resolution…
Whereas, the Petoskey Curling Club was formed in 2014 as a registered 501 C-3 charity to further local participation in and enthusiasm for one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.,
And whereas, since its establishment the club has introduced hundreds of local residents and non-local visitors to the sport of curling through Learn To Curl events, league play and tournaments establishing a dedicated membership of 50+ in 2018,
And whereas, the club has used both a local outdoor rink and indoor arena to schedule play and build club membership,
And whereas, membership and program development stalled in 2019/2020 due to poor outdoor and arena ice conditions, arena scheduling restrictions and high costs, and then paused in 2020/2021 due to the pandemic health crisis,
Be it therefore resolved that the Petoskey Curling Club Board of Directors has determined to focus its energies, resources and commitment to providing an enclosed and dedicated 2-sheet curling facility to be opened by October 2023 for the 2023/2024 curling season,
And be it further resolved that during the intervening months the club will aggressively pursue its communication and outreach to the current and prospective membership regarding future facility plans & development, fundraising, and (when permissible and appropriate according to public health officials), offering a robust schedule of opportunities for travel and/or seasonal outdoor curling.
Since January, we have been focused on searching for the perfect location and potential partners to support and help make this dream a reality…Stay tuned for developments.
