What is a Broompile?

A Broompile is our version of the traditional "Broomstacking".  The post-game pub gathering after a curling match is a cherished tradition that embodies the social spirit of the sport. Here's a glimpse into what you might experience:

Atmosphere:

  • Relaxed and convivial: The atmosphere is typically relaxed and friendly, with a sense of camaraderie among the curlers. It's a chance to unwind after the game and enjoy good company.
  • Laughter and banter: Expect plenty of laughter, friendly banter, and playful ribbing about shots made or missed during the match. It's all in good fun and part of the social dynamic of curling.
  • Warm and welcoming: Even if you're not a curler yourself, you'll likely find the atmosphere warm and welcoming. Curlers are generally known for their hospitality and inclusiveness.

Activities and Conversations:

  • Post-game analysis: Curlers often discuss the game, analyzing key moments, strategies, and individual performances. It's a chance to reflect on the match and learn from the experience.
  • Storytelling and reminiscing: You might hear stories about past games, memorable shots, and funny incidents on the ice. These stories contribute to the rich history and tradition of curling.
  • Socializing and networking: The pub gathering provides an opportunity for curlers to socialize, get to know each other better, and build connections within the curling community.
  • Enjoying food and drinks: Of course, no pub gathering is complete without some food and drinks. Curlers might enjoy a casual meal, snacks, or simply a few beverages while they socialize.

Traditions and Etiquette:

  • "Winners buy" tradition: While our club doesn't enforce this, there's a tradition where the winning team buys the first round of drinks for the losing team. This is a gesture of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
  • Respectful and inclusive: The post-game gathering is generally a respectful and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.

Overall, the post-game pub gathering is an integral part of the curling experience. It's a time to celebrate the sport, enjoy the company of fellow curlers, and strengthen the bonds that make the curling community so special.
